After watching Phil Schooley and Jon Schaben sell cattle at the auction where i was selling my personal livestock, I decided I would like to learn to become an auctioneer. I had no previous family or any other ties to the auction industry, just an incredible urge to try. I attended Missouri Auction School. After completion of the school, I started to work for a couple of local auctioneers and every once in a while I would sell cattle at Dunlap Livestock. Since then i have started my own auction business selling everything from livestock to real estate. (Double W Auction) I also work as a contract auctioneer for many other great auction services. (Wears auction, Sweeney auction, J&J auction, Colfax livestock, Richard auction, and Dunlap livestock. I have the ambition to take this dream of auctioneering to the next level.

David Whitaker joined Hertz Real Estate Services Inc. in June 2011 as an auctioneer and real estate salesperson at the company’s Nevada, Iowa office. David has a diverse complement of education and work experience.

Auctioneering and real estate courses over the years have given David the ability to work as a contract auctioneer in all types of auctions state wide. While selling farm machinery, antiques, livestock, estate, benefit, and real estate auctions, David gained the experience needed to start his personal auction company. In June of 2011, David joined the Hertz family to further his knowledge of agricultural land auctions. He has a background in farming/ ranching, and livestock.

Before joining Hertz Real Estate Services Inc., David and his wife, Ann, managed a purebred Angus herd in Ames, IA area where they still live today. They have one son named, Colton.

David is active in the Iowa Auctioneers Association and the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association.
